I joined EKU’s staff 11 years ago and currently serve as Education Abroad Coordinator within the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS). Originally from the Appalachian mountains of Eastern Kentucky, I moved to Madison County in 1991 and have lived there the majority of the past 26 years, currently calling Richmond home.
My experience in a variety of academic, non-academic, and financial roles, has given me a great appreciation of the complexity of the university’s operations and broadened my understanding of the breadth of staff roles across campus and the need to bring formal recognition to those many roles that are essential to the mission of the university. I have also had the privilege of representing the university while serving on many regional and state advisory boards, committees, and workgroups which allowed me to gain an “outside” perspective. While working full time, I have also raised two daughters and completed both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Psychology. I have thus experienced the university’s mission at work not only as an employee, but as a student/”client” and community member—a perspective that has deepened my appreciation for the critical needs of professional development and staff welfare. To me, being an EKU Colonel is very personal. I am honored to serve as a Staff Council member representing the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS), College of Science, and Honors Program, and be the voice of my fellow colleagues.
